The “Leading Future Education: Principals“ Executive Leadership Program“ organized by the Business School of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was successfully held at the Lee Shau Kee Business Building on the Clear Water Bay Campus from October 14th to 15th. This program gathered over 40 local secondary school principals and their representatives. The participants responded enthusiastically and engaged in discussions on topics such as leadership development, emerging technologies related to youth development, and future education trends in the classroom.

Next year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The university has always been dedicated to promoting the development of higher education in Hong Kong. This program fully reflects the university“s mission of giving back to the community, supporting education leaders at all levels, and enhancing the quality of education. Acting Dean Professor Xu Jialong of the Business School of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology said at the opening ceremony: “Secondary education and higher education are closely linked. The transition from secondary school to university is not two distinct stages but a continuous process of students“ growth. Each stage lays a foundation for the next. Therefore, we hope to strengthen cooperation with all principals to ensure that students can smoothly transition between different learning stages and receive comprehensive support.“

An outstanding and cutting-edge learning experience

The participants highly praised the program, believing that it was rich in content and greatly beneficial to the trainees. Principals who had participated in similar training also pointed out that this program was superior to previous trainings in terms of content organization and teaching quality, with an outstanding and cutting-edge level.

The principals present shared: “The quality of the program far exceeded our expectations. Being able to learn directly from the professors of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the inspiration and perspectives we gained are very helpful for us to think about educational development.“

Coping with future education challenges

The first day of the program focused on the application of the latest technologies in education, receiving an enthusiastic response from the participants. The principals regarded the program as “very practical and eye-opening“, and they gained a more specific understanding and grasp of the application of emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence, blockchain, Web 3, and social media in the field of education.

In an increasingly complex world, the second day of the program explored leadership and strategic management. The principals said that the program content covered topics such as leadership and management in the intelligent era, project execution, future work trends, and the development of higher education in Hong Kong, providing new ideas for coping with various challenges in schools.

Promoting communication and building a professional network

In addition to classroom learning, the program also included campus tours and communication sessions, allowing the participating principals to share experiences and exchange ideas with each other. These interactions not only helped the principals learn from each other“s good practices but also built a professional network, which is beneficial to the long-term development of the education sector in Hong Kong.

Looking ahead

Judging from the enthusiastic demand and positive feedback of the participants, in the face of rapid changes in educational technology and society, continuous leadership and professional development are particularly important. The Business School of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is committed to enhancing the quality and vision of education leaders and educators in Hong Kong. Professor Xu said: “This is the mission of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and also inherits and carries forward our tradition of contributing to the local education sector over the past 35 years.“
